What’s Your Favorite Party Game? Need New Ideas!

Main Post:

Hey r/partygames !

I’m always on the hunt for awesome party games to keep our gatherings lit. We usually play the classics like Charades, Truth or Dare, Cards Against Humanity, and Kings Cup, but I’m curious to see what you all are into.

Any unique or underrated games that get your crew going? Bonus points for games that work well with larger groups and keep everyone entertained.

Also, if you have any cool twists on the classic games, drop them here! We’ve been mixing elements from different games to make our own hybrid party games, and it’s been a blast.

Can’t wait to hear your suggestions!

Codenames works with lots of people and has an adult version that's even more fun for the right crowd. Blood on the Clocktower is beyond fantastic, like it's not even in the same ballpark as any of these other games, but it's very complex and while you don't need to understand all the rules that well to play it, you need an experienced storyteller to run it. Monikers is my newest favorite, works for big groups, and if you like charades you'll love it. Telestrations is incredible and they have adult and large group versions. The large group version plays 12 I think. Wavelength is probably my go to for really large groups. It's also the one to play when you're still waiting for people to show up since people can just jump in and set up time is nothing. It's not on the list, but if you have an adult crowd with a good sense of humor that knows each other well enough to make fun of each other, Stir the Pot is the game that's elicited the most laughter of anything I've ever played. Those are just some of the ones I've played and that boardgamegeek.com list has plenty of other great ones. There's so many out there! Get a few of those and your Cards Against Humanity box will just collect dust, I promise.

Any free party website games that you know of?

Main Post:

So every weekend, I host a weekly game event where I play with a discord community, and it seems that I'm running out of games that I could find. Although I could just reuse a game that we played before but it would have been if I got a lot of options.

Of all the weekly games we did, I think the lowest number of members who played with us was eight (8). The Maximum was fifteen (15). So basically, if you guys know any party games that you know of, it'd be greatly appreciated to share them with us!

Note: The games must be free where people don't have to download/install, smartphone-friendly, and supports at least 8-15 people. If the maximum number of players supported is 30 to 100, then it'd be great!

These are the games that we played before, so it'd be great if you suggest a game that isn't yet included in the list below:

What are some good games to play at LAN parties?

Main Post:

Free is always better (Free to Play, not pirated), but games that don't cost much are preferred.

D&D based games with parties that act automatically

Main Post:

New here and to D&D gaming (both tabletop and computer). I understand that fighter is considered a good class to play for beginners. A sort of tutorial class, because it has fewer mechanics. So far, so good. I now have BG3, Solasta and Pathfinder: Kingmaker to try out. Do these games offer the player to automate the actions of the party members while concentrating on the main character? I haven't found it if it's in Baldur's Gate 3, but I don't know about the others.

Are there ANY party-based RPGs that do what I'm looking for? Even if they aren't D&D-based?

I know Dragon Age (at least the first one) allows you to set actions for the party member you aren't controlling at the time. You can also switch to which character you want to control during combat and npc interactions.

Rentals for Parties

Main Post:

I see a lot of places you can buy games from offering rentals “for parties” as a service, which had me wondering...

What’s a good pinball for a party? My instinct is like Attack from Mars or Medieval Madness, Monster Bash, or Stranger Things. Maybe Godzilla?

Weird thing to consider, but more and more I’m like damn, maybe I should rent a pinball machine for a party lol.

I would say something with cool toys that can be understood quickly enough by people who aren’t really into pinball. MM and MB I think are perfect - shoot the castle, shoot Frankenstein and Dracula - anybody can have fun with that.

Birthday Party Ideas!

Main Post:

Hey everyone! I'm having my birthday in March and I really really want a monster high party. I will be planning this party myself and could use some ideas! Looking for:

  • Birthday message (Happy Boo-day? Have a Clawsome B-Day?)
  • Cake ideas (let me see those pics!!!)
  • Activity ideas (we are all 26 and older but none of us drink)
  • Decoration ideas ( I was thinking of just buying a generic MH themed party kit from Amazon)

My fave ghouls are Cleo and Lagoona (No debate on whether G1 or G3 is better)

I remember doing a monster high themed party when I was really young, and I had a cake in the shape of a skullette, they have molds for that, or you could pipe one. I think that a fun activity could be a fashion show where you can dress up as the characters. Hope this helps :)
